Can you believe its December already?
Started your advent calender today?
We love counting down the days to Christmas in our house and are excited for time with our family and friends, good food and making memories.
For the last 4 years during the month of December my family and I have enjoyed doing a daily Random Act of Kindness as an alternative take on the advent calender. We started doing this with our children to help them to spread kindness at a time when the focus in December can be seen, through the eyes of many, as all about receiving gifts and treats. Of course Christmas is about that to a certain extent, don’t get me wrong we still get our daily chocolate…however I believe that we should give more than we receive and that connecting with others (and I mean not via social media or WhatsApp!) is good for everyone. Research shows that helping others is great for our own mental health. So why not give a Random Act of Kindness a go?
Things like; having a simple conversation with a stranger whilst queuing for your coffee, leaving treats for the postman or writing a note to your child’s teacher to say what a brilliant job they do can make them (and you!) feel amazing. Try it…you won’t be disappointed!
My family make up our own things to do each day, but Action for Kindness has written a list with some brilliant ideas, you can choose ones that suit your family and situation. http://www.actionforhappiness.org/do-good-december.
You can of course do this at any time of the year… it would be great to hear if you have done this already or have been in receipt of a random of act of kindness, and how it made you feel?
The good news is that doing good doesn’t need to cost a lot of time or money. Small random acts of kindness can make a BIG difference.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
